Sailing the Cyclades

"WOW! What an incredible week in the Cyclades, spent on a catamaran charter sailing to Kea, Syros, Paros, Antiparos, and Kythnos. Cannot recommend this enough for anyone who wants a mix of adventure and relaxation on the water! Our captain, Spyros, and first mate, Bobbi, were the perfect pair. They really made the experience and clearly knew these islands inside and out. Since the route depends so much on weather and wind, we didn't book any dinner reservations ahead of time, but Spyros would make a call and somehow get us into the best restaurant on the island, wherever we happened to dock! Every restaurant had great ambiance, great food, and great drinks. It took all the stress out of planning."

Pure perfection

"Everything about this trip was so professional and well done. I cannot imagine how it could be any better. We were met at the marina and quickly accommodated and briefed. Our captain, Adonis, was fantastic and clearly passionate about sailing and making sure his guests have a great experience suited to what they will enjoy He was an absolute professional. Probably one of the best things about this trip was his knowledge of places off the beaten path to bring us to. Coves, Islands, restaurants, etc. Thank you for an unforgettable and wonderful trip"

A Trip We'll Never Forget

"Our time aboard Royal Hearts through YachtSailing was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Greece. From the moment we stepped aboard, Dimitri and Spyro made us feel welcomed and relaxed. Dimitri, our chef, was absolutely incredible! Spyro, our captain, was equally fantastic - extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with his recommendations. Royal Hearts itself was beautiful, spacious, spotless, and comfortable."

Wonderful Week Sailing the Greek Islands

"We had a fantastic week sailing around the Sarconic Islands of Greece. Eugene was extremely helpful in assisting us prior to the trip and Antonis our skipper was AMAZING. We were two families consisting of 4 adults and 4 kids aged between 8 & 12. Antonis was very patient and provided a lot of fun for the kids. He was also extremely knowledge about the region and the best spots to sail with our young children. We had such a great week of sun, swimming, relaxation and fun and didn't want the week to end. We will definitely return and highly recommend Yacht Sailing to anyone thinking about a sailing trip in Greece. Thank you!"

Fantastic week on Royal Hearts

"What a fantastic experience from booking to the sad time we had to leave!! We are a group who has traveled quite a bit. This week could not have been better. Eugene was a pleasure from our initial booking and happily answered all of our questions before arrival. When we arrived in port, we got on board and met our amazing crew. The captain and cook made the trip even better and were there to assist us in any matter. Beautiful spots, delicious food, warm hearts. Could not ask for anything more. Thank you so much for this!"

One of the best weeks of our lives

"We completed a family holiday of a lifetime, sailing around the Greek Islands with skipper Antonis. With three boys aged 8, 11 and 12 on board, Antonis asked us what we were hoping to achieve from our trip and then carefully tailored the stops to our requests. The food on board was so delicious we could not believe it. The entire experience was one to remember. Hope to see you again in the future"

One of the best vacation ever

"Words cannot describe our amazing week we had on the sea with such a great captain, hostess and itinerary. These two made us feel at home, safe and fed very well. We loved everything skipper suggested. He dropped us off at amazing coves, caves and beaches. He always asked what we had in mind but we went with what he suggested. Every port we went into we asked for suggestions where to have dinner and were not disappointed with any meal. We appreciated how accommodating they were to all of us.Such an amazing experience"

The best chartering experience I've ever had

"We chartered Royal Hearts, for 2 weeks, for 4 couples. The boat was in perfect condition and spotlessly clean. Our skipper, Adonis was a superb guide, sailor, and seaman! First of all, he made us feel safe. He was an excellent communicator who had a great sense for the personalities of the group. Most significantly, he recommended to us, based on our preferences, places and activities that made the trip extra special, and which we would not have found without him."

Royal treatment on the Royal hearts

"We just returned from our 6-day sailing trip aboard the Royal Hearts with Yacht Sailing Greece. There were 12 of us aboard, including 3 families with children ages 8-11. Our skipper, Vasilis, and hostess, Aliki, made our trip unforgettable. Vasilis catered our trip to our families’ needs while showcasing some of the Aegean’s lesser traveled islands. Vasilis quickly became our children’s favorite skipper who taught them sailing basics and entertained them with running and swimming races. Aliki provided a Greek mother’s warmth with traditional fare and even catered to one family’s vegan needs. Every meal was beautifully presented and tasted even better. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!"

I want to do it again!

"Everyone should sail the Greek islands, at least once. If you do, make sure to use yacht sailings and request Vasily as your captain and Aliki as your onboard hostess. They work together seamlessly to create a uniquely pleasant experience. Vasily can handle a boat like few. Greek food takes a different dimension when prepared by Aliki. Also ask for the Royal Hearts, a beautifully maintained 52’ catamaran. Loved the islands, loved the boat, and loved the crew. Overall, an experience that may never be duplicated."

7 Days in the Cyclades aboard Yacht Sailing's Royal Hearts

"My wife and I along with 7 of our closest friends recently sailed with Yacht Sailing Greece aboard Royal Hearts and had an amazing week in the Cyclades. We were happy with every aspect of our charter. The boat was great, the water beautiful, and the islands we visited were just as we imagined, each charming and unique. What really made this an exceptional trip, however, were the two people who welcomed us aboard and took such good care of us, our Captain, Vasilis, and our cook/hostess, Aliki. We cannot say enough good things about these two people. High winds made for some rough sailing, which Vasilis handled expertly, and caused the need for us to adjust our itinerary on the fly, and Vasilis did everything he could to enable us to see as many islands as possible. Aliki was just as accomodating, and every meal that she prepared for us was truly a culinary masterpiece. And she is a great first mate as well! We knew that we wanted to explore the Cyclades but we also knew that we wanted to do this in a small boat setting and not by way of a cruise. We are certainly glad that we picked Yacht Sailing, as Eugene, Maria and Marianna and others were great to work with in terms of the planning and booking. We are also glad that we picked Royal Hearts as that choice led us to the incomparable team of Vasilis and Aliki who really were great in all respects. Ed Ahlers Cincinnati, Ohio"

Fantastic sailing trip through the Cyclades

"Our group of 10 sailed the Cyclades with Captain Vassilis and Hostess Aliki amd had an absolute blast. Great experience - couldn't have hoped for more!

"Ten of us decided to sail for a week aboard the Royal Hearts (four couples and two individuals). We had such a great time with Vasilis at the helm - he would make recommendations on what island (and when we should sail) based on the weather (and dock availability) but would always check-in regarding what we wanted to do and would adjust and plan accordingly. Our group got to see Kea, Milos, Poliegos, Serifos, and Kythnos - several of the sunsets we saw brought tears to my eyes. The caves on Milos were a group favorite (although my favorite was the beach at Kythnos). I'll admit I was nervous about having a cook aboard the boat as I'm a very picky eater and a vegetarian. Let me tell you, Aliki's food was the best part of the trip. She prepared food separately for me when needed and every single meal had a different, fresh salad, and multiple sides, all of which were delicious. We also had a non-dairy person so she often had to adjust several things. I swear I gained 3 pounds just from Aliki's amazing cooking. After a week, both Vasilis and Aliki felt like great friends. In fact, we invited both of them to visit us in Montana! Overall, a great trip and memories that will last a lifetime. Definitely recommend YachtSailing to everyone!"

Good to know

How do you plan the itinerary?

We try to build the route around two main principles. The first is the profile of your group: how many hours you would like to sail each day, whether you are travelling with children, whether there are particular islands you definitely want to see, and what you generally enjoy doing - sightseeing, history, local life, swimming, snorkeling or simply spending time on the water. The second is the weather at the time of your arrival. These two things need to work together in order to create a trip that feels pleasant and relaxed rather than adventurous for the wrong reasons. Distance also comes into the equation. A successful week needs to strike a balance between many different things, not just sailing. You want time to enjoy the food, explore the islands, meet the locals, discover some history, read a book, paddleboard, snorkel, swim - or simply do absolutely nothing. All of this needs to find its place within the week. That also means having realistic expectations about how far you plan to go. We don't consider sailing endlessly just to reach another island part of the fun. Spending more hours at sea simply to tick destinations off a list can easily take away from everything else the trip has to offer. Last but not least, the yacht itself plays a role. A longer hull can generally achieve higher cruising speeds and cover distances more efficiently. Larger catamarans also place you higher above the waterline, offer more space and comfort, and can generally handle more demanding sea conditions with greater ease. So, beyond the accommodation and layout, the yacht you choose can also influence what makes sense for your itinerary. All in all, there are several things to consider when planning the week. Your group sets the priorities, your yacht helps define what is comfortable and realistic, and the weather always has the final say.

Is the itinerary fixed, or can we customize our route?

All our trips are fully customizable. There is no fixed itinerary. The final route is shaped together with you, based on your preferences (how many hours you wish to sail per day, whether you prefer sightseeing or relaxation, interest in hiking, swimming, local cuisine, etc.) and - most importantly - the weather conditions at the time of your trip. We do not pre-impose routes, nor do we force sailing long distances if conditions are unpleasant. The captain adjusts the plan daily to ensure the experience remains relaxed, safe, and enjoyable. You may also change plans during the trip and stay longer at places you enjoy.

What is included in the charter price, and what should we budget for separately?

In order to plan an accurate budget, you should consider the following costs in addition to the yacht price with crew. The figures below are based on averages we have seen from similar groups on previous charters and are intended as a realistic guide rather than fixed costs. Actual expenses will vary depending on your yacht, itinerary, preferences and the time of year you travel. * Fuel: Fuel consumption depends on the yacht, cruising distance, weather conditions and time of year. As a general guide, expect approximately 300-1000 liters, with a total cost in the region of €500-€1,900 for the week. You will receive the yacht with a full tank and refill it upon return. * End cleaning: €300, covering the preparation of the yacht, including cleaning, one set of bed linen, towels and tea towels, as well as the dinghy, outboard engine and gas bottles. * Port fees: Generally minimal, typically around €20-€50 per night, depending on the port or marina. * Crew provisioning: Approximately €25-€30 per crew member, per day for the crew's meals. * Guest provisioning: This depends entirely on your preferences and the food, beverages and alcohol you would like onboard. Your cook will organize the shopping according to your preferences so everything is ready for your arrival. All costs shown are for the entire group, not per person. Adding an additional guest after booking, provided the yacht's layout and permitted capacity allow it, does not change the weekly yacht price.

What can we expect from meals onboard?

Meals are an important part of life onboard and are based around fresh, Greek and Mediterranean flavors, adapted to your group's preferences and dietary requirements. With our standard two-person crew setup (Captain and Cook/Host), the natural rhythm is breakfast followed by a substantial lunch or late lunch onboard, while evenings are a wonderful opportunity to step ashore and discover local restaurants and tavernas. One or two dinners onboard can also be arranged. On yachts operating with a three-person crew, the dining experience can be more extensive.

What is a typical day onboard like?

There really is no fixed schedule - and that is part of the experience. You may wake up in a quiet bay, have breakfast onboard and sail in the morning before stopping somewhere beautiful for swimming, paddleboarding or snorkeling. Lunch is often enjoyed onboard, followed by another short sail or time at anchor before arriving at an island later in the day. Evenings can be spent exploring ashore, having dinner in a local restaurant or simply enjoying the yacht. Some days involve more sailing, others almost none. The rhythm develops naturally around the weather, the route and what your group feels like doing.

Is a yacht charter suitable for families or guests who are concerned about seasickness?

Absolutely, but choosing the right itinerary is important. Catamarans provide generous space and a stable platform at anchor, although any yacht will move when sailing in open water. For families, younger children or guests who are particularly sensitive to motion, the Saronic Gulf is often an excellent choice because distances are shorter and the waters are generally more protected. Your captain can also adapt the route according to the conditions and your group. Children are welcome onboard and remain under their parents' supervision throughout the charter. Weather is always monitored closely, and itineraries are adapted to avoid unpleasant conditions. The objective is comfort and enjoyment, not endurance sailing.

How do embarkation and disembarkation work?

Our charters operate on a Saturday-to-Saturday basis. On embarkation Saturday, yachts are typically ready from around 14:00 at our base in Alimos Marina, Athens. You are welcome to arrive at that time, board the yacht, and settle into your cabins. Your cook will have already arranged and purchased everything required for your meals, based on the preferences you have shared with us in advance. Everything will be onboard and ready for your arrival, so there is nothing else you need to organize. Once onboard: * The captain will welcome you and introduce the yacht. * A full safety briefing will take place. * You will discuss your preferences and possible routes based on the weather forecast. After these formalities, the trip begins immediately. Depending on your plans and weather conditions, you will usually sail for a few hours and enjoy your first swim or anchorage that very same day. On disembarkation, the yacht returns to the marina on Friday evening. You overnight onboard, and disembarkation takes place by 09:00 on Saturday morning. This timing allows the crew to properly clean, service and prepare the yacht for the next guests according to our standards.

Can we visit Santorini during a one-week charter from Athens?

Santorini is not realistically suited to a one-week charter from Athens. The distance requires more than long hours at sea and will quickly turn a sailing holiday into a trip focused simply on reaching one destination. This is not the nature of our trips. If Santorini is important to you, we strongly recommend spending two nights there before or after your charter. Flights from Athens take around 30-45 minutes and can often be found in the region of €80-€120, depending on dates and availability. And there is another reason we recommend experiencing Santorini this way: the real magic of Santorini is on the island, not around it. Its dramatic cliffs, villages, caldera views and sunsets are what make it exceptional. The surrounding waters are very deep, with steep and rocky coastlines, so it offers a very different experience from the bays, beaches and swimming stops that make a week by yacht so special. Our advice is simple: Santorini is absolutely worth visiting - but visit it by plane, and save your sailing week for the islands best experienced from the water. If you are chartering for two weeks, the picture changes completely. Santorini can then become part of a broader Cyclades itinerary without forcing the entire trip to revolve around getting there.

Can we visit Mykonos, Naxos and other Cycladic islands in one week?

Some islands can be combined within a week; others cannot - at least not without sacrificing comfort. Mykonos and Paros are feasible from Athens within a week under favorable conditions. Santorini, Patmos, Anafi, and other southern or eastern islands are located over 180 nautical miles away and are not realistically reachable within a one-week sailing vacation without excessive daily sailing hours. For these distant islands, we strongly recommend visiting them by ferry or plane before or after your sailing trip. The true experience of a sailing vacation lies in balance, not in covering maximum miles.

What happens if the weather is bad? Will the trip be canceled?

Trips are weather-dependent, but this does not mean they are canceled. If strong winds or unfavorable conditions arise, the itinerary is adjusted to more protected areas. To date, we have not lost a single trip due to weather. Greece offers many alternative routes that remain beautiful and enjoyable even when conditions in one region are not ideal. Flexibility is essential and a key for a successful trip along with an elevated experience.
